Wedding songs, beautiful entrance songs to great first dance choices, here are some favourites to help you decide
Wedding songs!
So you’ve come to the point you’re trying to decide what to have for wedding music. Here’s some help to get you started.
Whether you’re having a band, DJ, singer or your own music, you’ll still need to pick the songs you want to enter to, leave to & dance to.
Often something that gets left until later on in the planning, especially if you’re struggling to decide is the choices for music for key aspects of your wedding day.
You want something that fits you as a couple, something that people will like, let’s face it, it’s a tricky choice.
As a West Lancashire based wedding photographer I have witnessed many different choices, here are a few popular ones that might help you decide.
FIRST DANCE

Perhaps this is an easy choice, you have a favourite song as a couple from a first date/special moment, but for some this isn’t the case. Here are some of the most popular first dance songs and a few alternative choices. Some oldies and some newer ones to have a listen to.
Most of all just pick something you both like. It doesn’t matter whether its something lots of people have had or a song no-one has heard of.
A Thousand Years – Christina Perri
A popular choice, hard to believe this song is now over 10 years old. I don’t think this will be disappearing from wedding’s anytime soon. Upbeat & romantic.
An oldie, but a classic. A really elegant choice.
Let’s stay together – Al Green
Another that has been around a long time. Hard to believe this song is now over 50 years old. A personal favourite. You can’t go wrong with this song.
Great for a slow dance, easy to sing along too.
I let my husband choose our first dance at our wedding & this was the song he decided on. The lyrics are beautiful. Perhaps less common that some others on the list.
How long will I love you – Ellie Goulding
Another beautiful choice great for slow dancing.
Let’s just back a few years for this funky number from Bob Marley. A crowd pleaser for all generations.
Something a little more alternative from the mighty Foo Fighters. A beautiful choice for those who want something a bit rockier.
Some other choices
Better half of me – Tom Walker
Thinking our loud – Ed Sheeran
Perfect – Ed Sheeran
Can’t take my eyes off you – Andy Williams
Better together – Jack Johnson
Grow old with me – Tom Odell
Amazed – Lonestar
Your song – Elton John

Some other great wedding songs, for playing as you walk in, during the signing of the register, walking back down the aisle, drinks reception etc…
Other aspects of your day can often get overlooked due to thinking about what you would like as a first dance. Are you stuck between a few choices? Maybe there is another key part of your day that you could use one of your other favourites for?
Here are a few more popular choices for first dances or for entry/exit music.
Canon in D – Pachelbel
You & Me song – The Wannadies
Here comes the sun – The Beatles
Cavatina – John Williams
Something just like this – The Chainsmokers & Coldplay
Just the way you are – Bruno Mars
You’ve got a friend in me – Randy Newman
Make you feel my love – Adele
I’m yours – Jason Mraz
At my wedding I walked down the aisle to Canon in D played by an acoustic guitarist, Mike Williams. He then played Cavatina from the Deer Hunter as we signed the register & the You & Me song as we walked out together. Our first dance, as you may have sene above, was The One by Kodaline.
